Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that adolescents and young adults can experience in their lives. The pandemic exacerbated those symptoms in our youth and it is important to acknowledge what they are feeling and validate their emotions. Through counseling, we can help them recover motivation, perspective, and joy that they once had in their lives and give them tools to cope in the future.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anger, anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are just a few emotions that can linger following traumatic events. It is often times through trauma that you will see your child or yourself acting in a way that is completely out of proportion to the situation or circumstances. With any trauma big or small, it is important to authentically process the trauma. We provide a neutral space, time, and the experience to work through those feelings and learn how to use your trauma as a strength.
Parenting therapy helps parents identify, address, and manage their own past or present experiences that may be affecting the way they relate to their child. In some cases, parenting therapy may also help parents better communicate between each other to maintain a cohesive and structured parenting approach. We feel that having the child be a part of the process is important so that everyone is on the same page. We use Parent Management Therapy and/or Functional Family Therapy to help parents and children improve their relationships and create a peaceful, functioning, and cooperative family unit.
EMDR, also known as "Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing", is a powerful psychotherapy approach designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. By utilizing bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, hand-tapping, or audio stimulation, EMDR facilitates the integration of distressing memories, reducing the distress these memories cause and allowing for a healthier perspective. This evidence-based treatment is particularly effective for those dealing with PTSD, anxiety, and other trauma-related issues. In a supportive and safe environment, clients can navigate their memories and emotions, leading to profound healing and resilience.
Play therapy is a tested, dynamic approach to therapy, which is designed to help young children express and process their emotions, thoughts, and experiences through play. Unlike traditional talk therapy, which can be challenging for younger children, play therapy uses various play activities, such as drawing, storytelling, and role-playing, to create a safe and engaging environment in which children can work through issues such as anxiety, trauma, and behavioral difficulties. This method allows children to communicate and explore their feelings in a non-threatening way, facilitating self-expression and emotional healing. We use play therapy to gain insight into the wonderful internal world of a child, and help them process and work through the difficulties they may be facing.
